Steering Column Rubbery Squeak
Steering Column Rubbery Squeak
When turning steering wheel at a standstill, not for the full rotation but near the end of the wheel rotation, I hear a faint rubber sound that is definitely in the steering column. I checked the steering shaft spring on the engine side of the firewall and it is tight, maybe 1/32nd inch movement if that. No other known steering or suspension problems. I greased ball joints and all of the steering and suspension linkage. Everything's tight and the truck steers as straight as an arrow and rock solid. So, what could make a rubber squeak in the column? I appreciate any input, Thanks!
Glad to be of help. The clock spring is under the steering wheel, so you'll need a puller. If it's not bad, I'd leave it in place. I replaced mine to get rid of my air bag light. On my first drive after the fix, it sounded like it had dirt in it. It comes and goes, so oh well.
