The brakes on my 02 QC 4X4 work fine. The problem is the brake lights stay on about 1 second after I release the peddle in any situation even in park. Not a problem for driving there is no pressure on the pads but while towing our TT the trailer brakes do not release until the brake lights are out. Imagine red light stop, green light go, truck pulls trailer no go then go about that fast. Is there a sensor out of whack or is this something different or common?

Sounds like there might be a valve problem in the brake system. I dont know that much about how the system works....

 

There should be a brake switch under your foot pedal. It is probably just getting sticky. You could see if something like a loose wire is tying it up, or maybe it just needs to be cleaned it up a bit.

 

Start by replacing the pedal switch, last one I bought from Napa was $12.

 

ditto...a buddies truck was doing something like that, he thought it was his brake controler for the trailer, ended up replacing that and it didn't fix it...replaced the pedal switch and it worked good as new...but with yours being a 02 don't be suprized if yours is more than $12...
