Brake Controller Went PUFF???

I hooked up my brake controller tonight to the factory harness on my 01, tested all the wires and they all seemed to function properly, plus they had marked tags on them. So I hooked the wires together, matching the colors. Slide the manual button acouple times and the light just flickered, Hit the brake and it went puff...So is something wired wrong or was my controller just crap, it was several years old..I have had the same one on three dodges...

The wire colors do NOT match, at least on mine. That is probably the reason for your letting the smoke out of yours.

Yup. The wire colors on the controller do not match the factory harness. You may have created a dead short.

Wow, you really should have just blown a fuse. What controller is it?

Consider yourself lucky you did not have a Car-B-Que.
One of our customers connected his brake controller at his home late in the evening and decided he didn't "need no stinkin fuse", and ran the power supply directly to his battery.
At 3 am he was awakened by a loud crack. He went outside to investigate where the noise came from, only to find his truck interior on fire.
His el cheapo brake controller had shorted out and caused the fire, had he not heard the windshield crack from the heat, he would have lost his entire truck to the fire.

my wife doesn't care about things like that......its the injector and turbo upgrades that got her upset. If i tell her it's for safety its ok tho.....couldnt pass off the suber b and 90 horse injectors as safety items (or items i really needed lol)
