I will second the Bilsteins. Not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. Definite improvement over stock.

Fellows I had some KYB's on my truck for probably a 150,000 miles. They are still just as tight as the day I put them on. I occasionally get a little air over some railroad tracks, and other rough rides with them. I don't remember what I paid for them, maybe around 60 bucks a piece, maybe a little more. They are nitrogen gas shocks. You have to leave the security strap on or get two of your buddies to wrestle the shock back down. I (think) the RANCHO'S,SKYJACKERS,ETC., are just over-priced cheap shocks made by the same company that makes the MONROES.

I had the KYB Monomax's, which where a replica of the Bilsteins and I didnt like the stiff ride. Much harsher than stock. This was OK in the front but the back was to firm. So I took them back and ordered the RS9000X's for Sams and I love them.

Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks

I have 35K on a full set. Three weeks ago the left rear starting hammering on bumps, piston had unscrewed itself from head. Called Advance Auto and they got me a replacement (lifetime warranty from Edelbrock). Down to Florida and back last week on I-95 and now right front is shimmying. Checked it last night and, sure enough, shock oil everywhere. Called Advance again, another shock on its way to me.

Lifetime warranty is paying off. Wife bet me last time that I didn't have receipt and couldn't get replaced for free - - shop file for truck yielded receipt that they didn't even glance at.

I like the way these shocks ride on my 2WD. I haul a heavy gooseneck occasionally and they seem to not even notice the extra weight. Now if I can keep them from self-destructing....

Mine 2 does yours bounce alot in the front. I dont mean for a long time but if you hit a couple of dips that are possitioned right does your front end bounce off the ground?

Mine seems to dampen fine normally but have a few freeways with dips that will let the front end come off the ground at about 70 mph. They stop the bouncing a nd ride really good but it seems they cant handle the weight sometimes.

IMHO, an adjustable shock is the only thing that makes sense on a 4X4 CTD that can carry 2,000 lbs. If you can find a good one!

My Rancho 9000 ride so much smoother empty that stock (HD Tow Option) that I still smile on bumpy roads. Set front's on 5 and rears on 3.
Hauled 2,000 lbs (9,200 GW) from Dallas to L.A. with them set in 9 and 7. No problem, and extra support in the rear I did not need. I don't tow so can't speak to that - but I love the Ranchos for everything else!
I missed the sale (last year in July?) - and they are still worth what I paid!

Does anyone run Monroe gas magnums? They used to be the best before these newer ones with all their bells and whistles.

i use rs9000 not x,s ,i think i could use dual shocks on the rear cause even at 5 [the highest setting] our 10,10" camper and boat can rock pretty good going up dirt roads to primitave lakes.i have about 110k miles on my set between two trucks.good shocks.my second choice if i didnt haul mass loads would be bilsteins.jmho ps keep your receipts for the lifetime warranty, that could be a long time.

KYB Monomax's including quads up front. Great shock, handles/rides well. That's after going through two sets of Ranchos.

I used to run ranchos on my much lighter rock rig, I blew up everyset I had, I run Bilsteins 5100s now and love them.

I would only consider a gas shock on a rig as heavy as the CTD Ram.

Bilsteins for me.

I have the dual remote. It was a PITA to install. It really clutters up your under hood area with all the tubing. One of the gauges went bad. They send me a replacement that didn't match the other one. I complained and then they sent me another so I had to change both. The front bushings are too big in ID and they rattle when set on firm. If I had it to do over, I would have went with Edlebrocks. The 9000's work ok, but are not worth the money, IMHO.
