Ball Joint Wear Limits

Hi All, I'm new to the site and very impressed. I know my share about the ISB/B 5.9 but not as much as I would like to about Dodge.

Does anyone know the upper and lower ball joint replacement specs (ie. max allowed wear) on a 2002 3500 4x4?

Thanks for any and all help.

It doesn't take much to start causing 'wander'. Mine are shot at 66K. Replace with Moog parts. There is a silver ring showing on the bottom BJ's at the dust cover...signs of wear. I was told that once this appears they are shot. Kurt

'02 3500 4x4

The reason I'm asking is I have all the specs up to '96 and it says zero play for all 4x4's. I brought this truck to Dodge and they passed the safety on it with the passenger side upper ball joint having enough play in it to cause a clunk when driving. They say the spec is .060" of either radial or axial play is allowable. To me that's just crazy.

I just had my passenger side ball joints go.I think if you hear a clunking sound their toast.I got 240000kms of rough logging roads and foot to the floor.Everybody I talked to couldnt believe they lasted that long

Yours has 250,000 Km and we use it as a Service Truck in the same conditions as you mentioned, only in Northern Ontario, Canada.
