Question Bad Wheel Bearing and Ball Joints

So I was looking at my front wheel hub, trying to see what it would take for replacement. Looks like my upper ball joints are worn pretty good as well. I bought a replacement wheel hub due to sealed bearings and just ordered new Moog upper/ lower ball joints for both sides. Is there anything else I need to be aware of that may need replacing? I couldn't find a diagram of the suspension on this truck either. Anyone got one? 2001 Ram 2500 2WD. Thanks.

You may also want to check the tie rods while you have it half way tore down. Other than that besides the brake caliper, the ball joints and bearings are the only "moving parts" that need to be replaced.

be prepared to work hard on the ball joints..they are riveted in ....i changed all of mine several years ago...you have to drill the rivets out. the way i did mine ,i used a grinder on the rivets till they were flush, then carefully center punched them...then drilled them out with a bit that's the same size as the replacement bolts....really a tedious process........the next time will be easier

Check all the joints on the steering linkage (pitman arm, tie rod ends, etc.) Inspect the track bar. This is a common weak point.

I replaced my ball joints and bearings a year ago with parts I bought at rockauto.com. My ball joints must have been changed before because I had no rivets. It wasn't a bad job.

You did not have rivets because yours is a 4x4 and they are pressed in and he DOES NOT have a track bar because his is a 2wd.

So I FINALLY got a chance to replace ball joints and wheel hub on the passenger side. The wheel hub was a breeze compared to the ball joints. And you were right, the rivets were a b@#$!!! Too much for hand chisel and I didn't have a strong enough air compressor, but made it work a little at a time. I will be better prepared for the driver's side ball joints!
Thanks for the assist!

I can recommend Norseman black and gold drill bits and Ultra Lube for the rivets and of course plenty of elbow grease.
