Testing my memory but I recall fixing mine a few years a go. Think the switch is on the transmission case. Simple fix if I'm correct. Dealer item I think.

If you also have no light over your cup holder check fuses, they share a fuse.

If you have an aftermarket exhaust the wires may have gotten to near it. The switch should be on the passenger side upper third of the gearbox, two wires.

On the 47re that came on the 98s the switch is on the trans, easy to test w/ a test light.

When did they put 47RE on 98 unless it was a V10 or diesel. The V8 came with 46RE.

The switch on a NV4500 is on the drivers side, top. IIRC a 7/8 deep well socket to remove it. Before buying one (and before removing the switch) put a jumper across the two pins of the connector and turn the ignition switch on. If the backup light illum the switch is bad.

my lights only work when you hold the shifter 1/2 way between park and reverse is there a way to adjust the switch?

This is a diesel forum.

Well Sense he gave no other information about his truck, besides year, I guess it wasn't a huge leap to assume it was a diesel. Even if it was a 46re the switch would be in the same place.
