Another AC question

I am thinking I need to charge my AC cause I currently have no cool air. However I got the recharge gauges last night and put them on today. My compressor would kick in when the low side got to 40 and then the compressor will kick off. When I have the AC off it is 60 on the low side steady and around 100 or so on the high side. Does this sound like it needs recharged? Also I went to put freon in and I screwed the can to the yellow hose thinking it would pierce the can. It did not. Am I missing something with this? Is there an adapter that I need to get with this setup? I got the kit at Auto zone and it comes in a black case. About 60 bucks. Any help would be appreciated. I feel like an idiot cause I can't fill the system.

yeah its low on charge, charging it back up will just buy you time cause you have a leak. the freon just dosnt disapear. i've never used one of the kits but it should have a tap or something to screw into the top of the can or a squeeze on can tap that goes around the can..
