Amsoil Severe Gear ?
Thinking about using Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90 in the axles. I have a limited slip rear end. I was wondering if Amsoil Severe Gear had friction modifier already in it. Could some one clear this up for me? I'm well past due on this gear lube change
Also since I'm on the subject. Just wonder what to expect to see when I drain the old stuff. Some guys say they will see tiny shavings. Also they may see a lot of moisture too. I just wanna be sure I don't miss something!

Yup it does have the modifier. My distributer has 450k on his 99 CTD and suggests the 75w-140 for the rear and 75w-90 for the front due to the heat issues. Since it is synthetic it will flow well but take the intense heat of the rear end without breaking down( turning black is an indication of breakdown and wear). Check the color of your fluid and check for metal shavings. With the heat that they run I don't think you will find water unless you've been in hurricane Katrina. Amsoil has a special 75w-90 oil for the NV4500 and NV5600 transmissions that proves to be far superior to the Castrol stuff Chrysler uses and it is a lot cheaper. If you need more info email me and I'll help you locate what you need!

Could I get by with 75-90? I only pull once in awhile. Plus we only have 3 months of really hot weather. Local fleet store carries it on hand. Thats kinda why I'm askin.

I'll be changing the oil in my NV4500 soon....which do you guys think I should run?
The rear seal is leaky and I'll be fixing that and installing the updated 5th gear nut...
part #s would be great!!
I've read a ton of posts where all people reccomend using is the special castrol syntorq stuff but its very pricey and availability is limited..if I could run amsoil in the trans it would be great, I've also got a leaky front output shaft seal on the 241 that needs to be addressed...maybe ill put some amsoil ATF or something in there too..
Thanks!

Amsoil recently introduced oils formulated for the NV4500 and others like it, as well as an oil for the NV5600 and other transmissions like it too. I would recommend what they do!
BTW, I need to change mine, and I'll be going Amsoil in the tranny and rear as well!
