aluminum rims

Any body know the best way of taking clear-coat off of aluminum rims, so far asitone and a scotch pad have worked pretty good for me, but this rim is a new rim and it is coated pretty good. the reason for taking it off is i had to get a new rim because of a colision and am getting the other rims pro- polished and want them all to match. any suggestions? thankyou in advance. 8)

Re:aluminum rims

It's pretty simple, get a spray bottle of paint stripper, and a hand-full of quarters, take your wheel (or the entire truck) to the quarter car wash, spray the stripper onto the wheel, wait a few muintes, spray off with high pressure, works like a charm.

Later, Rob

Re:aluminum rims

Tell me about this "pro-polish" thing. I have some old Mustang rims and the clear coat is gone. It was taken off mechanically, by me when I bought them to to pitting from the weather before I bought them.

Chris

Yeah, tell us about this. I have a set of uncoated aluminum billet wheels which require constant care, even when they sat in a garage all winter. :

Re:aluminum rims

well, a friend of mine that lives over in the next town and his dad farm quite abit of acres and have 4 grain semis, when I first started hauling cattle with a semi, the kenworth I had had some pretty sad looking aluminum rims on it , took it down to his place and he has got buffing wheels and polish bars of different colors-for different grades and metals he lightly sands the rims to get out all the pitting and then polishes them with this buffer wheel and they look like brand new rims, it is amazing!-- mirror finish!! he used to charge me 25 bucks a rim on the semi , but he is charging me 25 bucks to do all 4 of my pick-up rims. I will try to post a picture of my semi rims.

Re:aluminum rims

there is a company that makes a solution that you wipe on after you clean the rim and it is suposed to seal up the pores and keep the rims look like new kindof like clear coat but it does not flake off or chip, last for 2 years -they say! I wonder if that includes the cow or hog $hit that drops out the front punch holes on a bullrack onto the rim! nasty!! ;D

Re:aluminum rims

here is the frieghtliner we got when i was driving for mcgovern livestock. it is a 2001 with a n-14 cummins ,500 hp, with a 13 speed, 70'' condo it had 120,000 miles on it when we got it. it was a repo truck. I put 7 inch-10 foot mitered cut pipes on {which i sold for more than I gave for them!} I loved this truck!! :'( :'(, but I had 2 kids and a wife at home and I wanted to keep them around so I quit and went to work for Croell redi-mix hauling cement!

Re:aluminum rims

thats why if you have ever met me on the gravels anywhere with my trucks I am going so slow you could turn around and pass me going backwards! Hated washing 2-3 times a week, but man, I liked it when I got the job done! that picture of the truck was actually at the truck wash near by where I live. I took the picture with a friends camera because I knew if i was going to drive it home it wouldn't be that clean when I got there!
