alternator wonder?

hey guys, heres the scoop,I got in my truck this morning, I have not drove it since saturday morning, It had been pluged in since last night and my voltage guage is not even registering! starts right up! runs fine, but gauge still no worky till about 20 minutes later! now shows fine! alternator headed south? I have 2 brand new batteries in it, but they are from walmart if that makes any difference, they are both 1100 amp 860cold cranking amp bateries with 3 year warrenty. My only other thought could be, that I have white face guages in the truck that I put in, and when it gets cold, my speedo doesn't work right away, because the needle is pushed to tight! never a problem with this one till now though!any ideas?

Probably gauge. You can check the battery voltage with a voltmeter before you start it, then again after you start it. It should be about 12.8 volts. When you check it after it is running it should be about a volt higher if the alt. is working. Kevin

a couple of things... the voltage gauge will jump up when you turn the key on... Plugging in the truck only keeps the block warm...has nothing to do with charging the batteries.

But since it starts, I'd say you pushed the needle on too far. I've done it too.
