Add me to the cracked dash club

I thought my truck wouldn't get the cracked dash like my 95 did, well it cracked today. No its not too bad, i plan on drilling it so the crack doesn't spread till i come up with a fix. Now should I put in a dash mat or a new dash? How do the dash mats look in a truck? Thanks!

The ones I have seen look like a bad toupee. You won't regret getting a new one--takes about 2 hours to install.

Matthew, I have a mat in my 97 and it works well for me. Stuff doesn't slide around when I throw it up there.

Oh, and I think mine looks pretty good. It's the same color as my dash, and is fabric, with small velcro patches around the edges to hold it in place. And like I said, stuff doesn't slide around, like if I throw a CD up there.

Check Genosgarage.com They have a slick rigid plastic dashtop that installs over your existing dash. It only comes in black but its paintable. looks better then a fabric one too

I've got the rigid Genos ready to go...just been too lazy to put it on. One thing I don't like is you can't get to the bolts under the windshield if you need to remove the dash to fix the evap/heater core. I'm thinking about drilling holes in the new dash where I can access the original dash's bolts just in case.

You will need to replace your dash one day. You might have been ahead if you would have just done it. it's less then $200 at the dealer. if it's not, call other dealers and have it shipped to you. I paid $169 for mine. I had peices of the dash plastic sitting on my dressor in the house and they would break themseves apart without anyone touching them. There'se some kind of chemical imballance in them. The parts that would break up on the dressor would leave little oil like spots at the break lines.

When you buy a new dash from the dealer, is it made from the same material? If so, what's the point....It's just gonna crack again.
