ABS system
Ok, don't beat me up here. I am a proud Ford owner, I am merely he for a friend, seriously, here is computer illiterate!
He has a 99 2500 that recently has had the ABS light and the Brake light come on. I have read some of the previous posts and have come to the conclusion that it is the speed sensor on the rear axle.
How do we fix this? Do we replace the sensor? He is starting to get annoyed, because it does come on all the time. Just every so often while driving down the road, all the sudden it comes on. He shuts the truck off and the back on and the lights go out.
All little help here for a fellow Dodge man and my brother in blue would be very helpful
I did not fill out the signature section for fear of retalation and strange people driving by my house.
Thanks
Jake

I have had this happen to my trucks several times over the past years. In every case it has been the sensor on top of the rear diff. The sensor runs about $50 or so and is easy to replace. I would go this rout if yall have already checked the fusses and brake system itself out. Good luck

Mine does that only in very cold weather, always resets just like his, not a problem when it gets milder. I think if only rear wheel abs sensor is on the rear diff, but if 4 wheel abs there are also two more sensors, 1 at each front wheel. kinda makes it a little harder to track down the culprit, but most of the problems seem to be with the rear one. From reading other posts i see that the speedo being slow to react, needle doesn't move until your speed is up to 10 or 20 mph, is another indication the sender is going south.

The other thing to check would be if some foreign material, aka- mud, ice, whatever has gotten onto the tone ring. You will find the tone ring is what the wheel sensors monitor, looks like a slotted ring, located directly under the wheel sensor. If the tone ring has "teeth" missing from it, that would also cause your ABS light to come on.
PS to roadrat---mine has done that "cold" thing on two occasions, both were in the -20F range. About drove me nuts
