ABS and Brake light

Just a quick question to ponder. Friday I loaded my truck bed with 2500 lbs. of feed. Before the feed was loaded I flipped my gooseneck ball upsidedown. Once I started moving the ABS and Brake light came on. Once I got to the farm I unloaded the feed ... the lights are still on!! When I start to drive off the speedometer does not move until 10 MPH is reached the jumps to 10MPH and the two lights come on and stay on. Could the ball have damaged the sensor on top of my rear diff? Any suggestions before I stop by the dealer. The truck does not appear to drive or brake any differently than before. I don't think it is anything major but would like to get the lights off.

When this happened to me, it was the rear wheel speed sensor that had gone bad. Costs around $25 if memory serves me right and only took maybe 15mn to replace. Simple fix.
Hope this helps.

I know a service guy at local dealership and talked to him on the phone late Friday afternoon. He said they had never heard of that but he too told me it sounded like a wheel sensor gone bad. I love this dealership... he told me they could hook it up to a computer for diag. (prob. $75 for diag.) but later told me his manager wasn't right there and he would sell me the sensor for about $30 and talk me through replacing it if I had any problems!

Is this the sensor on the rear diff? I checked mine and it looks like it may be broken but I am trying to check another truck to see how it looks. I will definately post results asap.

There is a sensor on top of the rear diff. Clears up this problem about 95% of the time. But if you have 4 whell ABS there is also a sensor on each front wheel.
That sensor on the diff seems to make the speedo act funny on automatics.

This is a post from Dshiftff from another thread. Might be helpful if you have 4 wheel ABS.

"I had this same problem up until friday. I have the 4WABS and my brake and abs light was on. Tested out the Wheel sensors right at the ABS module with an ohm meter in the engine compartment on the driver side fenderwell. They should Ohm out around 1400 Ohms. Using the main harness going into the ABS module, Use pins 1+14 to check the rear diff sensor, use 2+15 to check the Right front wheel sensor, use pins 3+16 for the left front sensor. I found the front right sensor out of spec, so I took it off and cleaned it up there was metal debris stuck to it and ohmed it out off the truck and it seemed ok, put it back on and the lights were off. I dont know if there was a bad connection or if the metal was interfering with it somehow, But for now all is good."

Thumbs up

Hey I had a problem with my ABS and Brake light coming on also, the fix was simple. I Vac hose under the battery on the drivers side. You can use a mirror to look around. GL with that

Good point. Always check the easy stuff first, usually gets it.

FYI....... If you own a 99 auto no matter what the vendor tells you, you can not flip the ball upside down on a B&W gooseneck hitch and carry a heavy load in the bed!!!!! The weight will push the ball down and break the wheel speed sensor($40 & 15 min.) every time. Lucky for me I knew someone on here would have the answer and I made it out a lot cheaper than it could have been! Thanks again to everyone's help and advice!!!!

For 2WD trucks such as mine, B&W will supply a plug to fit in the gooseneck receiver when the hitch isn't in use to avoid this clearance problem.
