My 99 sport had the word "sport" on the hood sides and slt on the cab. My 02 just has a sport badge on the rear cab.

Re:? about "SPORTS" model

I gained 24 horsepower with my sport pkg right after I removed all the badging. :
I also lost a few dollars purshasing it.
I ordered it on the new truck because the dealer told me it adds 27 HP now.
And, since it is a factory option I will not VOID my warranty.

Re:? about "SPORTS" model

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that 99 was the first year that the new Sport frontend was used. The 98 still used the painted standard bumper & grill from the previous years. ??? Anyway, mine has the Sport decal on the side of the hood, but nothing on the cab or anywhere else saying SLT or anything. Another thing is that the Sport grill is a completely different shape than the other grills, it's more rounded at the bottom. Someone already mentioned about the headlights, but the front turn signal/parking light assemblies are different too.
I wanted the Sport model because there weren't many in my area at the time that I bought my truck and I liked the different look. My Dad on the other hand, liked the "Chrome" look of the SLT. His black truck with the chrome looks real good! ;D

My 98 3500 4x4 sport (intense blue) was steel bumper and old style lights. Sport was on the doors. (which i promptly removed all decals) Of course all bumpers were color matched but you are right 99 was the change to the big plastic bumber on front (or whatever it is made of) (like my 2001 had on it) I don't know about the grill or the parking lights being different. But they grill was, of course, color coded.

Black and Chrome is pretty but so is a black sport with all the decals removed! Total blackout and tinted windows!

Looks like I was a year off on the switch to the different Sport grill. I was more or less guessing that it changed with the interior in 98.
I was all set to order a solid black Sport when the Intense Blue one showed up on the lot with every option I was going to order, but it was loaded with everything else too. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse,,,,,,, and I've learned to really like the Blue now! ;D

DUDE!!!! You didn't go wrong on the Intense Blue at all! I loved my Blue 3500 in every way except the freaking 5 speed. That is probably the only reason I don't own it today. I was tired of shifting gears.

I love the Intense Blue... and a hell of alot easier to keep clean. The remark, was of course, directed at the difference between black/chrome and blacked out.

The intense blue looked awesome without the stickers too but I wouldn't do it after they have been on there a long time.

I just saw an all white '03 that looked like a sport but no badging. The grill center was chrome. Very nice looking.

I could have swore that the sport came with a 1" spacer to give the truck a little bigger stance. I know when you look at doing a suspension lift a lot of them will say something like "5" lift, 4" on sport model"

Can anyone comfirm that or am I just going crazy?

I had a supercharged 01 bonneville for awhile and a caravan raced me and absolutely blew the bonne out of the water. It all started at a red light when he reved his engine and I started laughing :-( I was doing 100mph and he passed me as though I was standing still, pretty sure all the way up to 100 he was just sitting right behind me to tease me as well.

When I ordered my 2002 3500 Sport, the Sport package was an exterior appearance group that could be ordered with any of the SLT or SLT+ (G or H packages) interior groups. It was not a stand-alone model as is the case with the 2003 and later trucks.
