? about "SPORTS" model

I was just wondering what is different about the sport model? I was next to one yesterday and noticed

1. a different front bumper..... I thought it was just painted or powder coated but the fog lights are in a different place.

2. The grill painted (new that)
3. The tail lght bezels painted...that surprized me, are they painted or actually made in body color? (ie will they peel eventually)
4. rear bumper painted.....

Did they do anything else to them that was not cosmetic? like different shocks, springs, interior etc.......

I think I want sport bumpers....and grill...if I could find them...

The differences are "different" depending upon the year of the truck. 94-97 Sports are different only in having the painted portions that you listed--grille, bumpers, tail light bezels. Starting in 98-02, the grille and front bumper are different in addition to being painted, and the headlights are different and better. Different badges, too. That covers most of the differences that I can think of. As far as I know, it was mostly an "appearance" package, with no functional differences other than the better headlights on the later trucks.

My 2 cents on this. The ones that were mentioned before are all that are diffrent. As far as performance its hard to give all the model of trucks the same performance when they are all diffrent 1500 2500 3500 and all come with the same sport package. As far as the 98 on sport, Headlights are the only good thing. I do love the look. My diesel is a sport. My gasser is just good ole fake chrome( cheep *** bastards haha)

Problems though. Front bumper=plastic. Who wants plastic bumpers? rear, i think are better off painted. there still steal and you can paint when scrached as apposed to chrome is just screwed
One of the best looking trucks I have ever seen was a white Quad Cab '01 Sport. Oh, it was beautiful, black leather, blue 2500 Cummins decals, even the wife loved it, but the price was up there.

I believe according to the Ram brochures that the Sport was not introduced until 1995. I can not find any info on the Sport for the '94 model year.

I know I ordered a truck in September of 94 and it was a 95 model, and I'm pretty sure they didn't introduce the 94 a full year before that.

I also have a SPORT model and one thing I never understood is there is no other badge on the truck that indicates the level of options or model. My truck has a lot of options but no leather or heated seats. Why does one have these as appposed to another that doesnt. Is there a standard level of options that the SPORT model comes with?

The SPORT is just a visual exterior apperance package. It could have been ordered on all models with the SLT and SLT plus options. So for example the '01 model, according to Dodge, you received body colored front and rear bumper and sight sheilds, body color grille, quad headlamps and fog lamps, white letter tires, forged aluminum wheels (2500 models) and the Sport decal.

The rest of the truck is ordered in regular fashion, if you wanted leather, you had to order the leather interior group or an SLT plus, etc....

Re:? about "SPORTS" model

So far it sounds like everyone is correct, about the “sport” package in the 2001.5 range to end of production. The cut off date for this was at the end of may 2001. After this you had to order a 2002 (in my area) and would not ship until late 2001.

Except about the badges. It appears that dodge could not supply some of the newer (2001.5) the decals. The build date on my truck is 9-00. I am not sure about this. But I do know that some of the “sport” trucks came with the standard RAM 2500 Steel/chromed/black paint, badge and some came with the decals.

In early (Jan, Feb, March 2001) you could get the “sport decal package”. Or was this another Option to order? The “ sport decal group”? I was not able to order my truck; it was the pick of the lot type. But it did come with everything but the Plus (and decals) which would be Leather, Heated seats, Wood grain (plastic) Bezel, Factory Alarm. I believe that this is the difference in the Plus to no Plus. OverFueled
I believe that I have every option except for the heated leather seats and the wood grain. The other item I dont have is the rear sway bar and the over load spring. ??? That one threw me a curve because I havent seen to many without those. I asked a dealer once and his reply was "They offered a truck that was sportier than the others". What ever? I still have the 8800# GVWR though. I even have the build sheet and everything is listed as HD but nothing said about the lack of overloads or sway bar. Not sure if I even need them. I have never squated it down.

Re:? about "SPORTS" model

This might make you guys cringe....
My Black Sport's first mod was to remove the stickers, All of them including the 4X4 on the tailgate! I later installed a huge front bumper replacement to accomidate the winch and lights. (the sport bumper was prettier though) The sport bumper is in the classifieds.
I like it alot better without the stickers and I don't think anyone mistakes my truck for a 2 wheel drive or a chevy.

This is my 3rd sport though and you got what you ordered basically. The sport was simply a decor package. Everything else besides the decor package you or the dealer ordered above and beyond the base model. The interior even went by the standard SL, SLT, etc.
