98 12v QC
98 12v QC
Hey all, I'm new to the forum as you can see by my # of post. But I'm wondering why alot of you consider the '98 2500 12v QC the "cream of the crop" of the CTD trucks. I almost traded mine in a few months ago for a megacab but couldn't make myself spend the 50k for it. After reading through the forums here I'm glad I kept it
and decided to do some mods to it.
and decided to do some mods to it.
Basically it's because in 98.5 they went to the 24v and with that comes the VP44 injection pump and lift pump which have known issues with failure, also it's the first year you could get the QC.... and the first year you could get it with a short bed, originally when you selected the Club Cab you automatically ended up with an 8' bed.
This is also the first year of the newer interior, with the digital dash.
The 12v mechanical pumps are cheaper to modify, and are generally more reliable. The Manual models also get you the 215hp pump which is known for making big power. Fuel milage is also typically better with the 12v's.
I think that's pretty much it, I'm sure there's something I'm missing but it's a start..

DodgeGuy is right, it gets you the 12v engine, that many of us prefer, and the rear doors, which are awesome. I personally prefer the old dash, and a longbed, I had a short bed, that stinking thing drove me nuts. Hated it.

after u start modifying that 12V you will really wonder why u even considered trading it for a mega cab... LOL, If u get the BOMB bug bad enough ur gonna be takin duramaxes and 6.0's like toys with an old 12V, and ur gonna love it..
Good find and good choice on keepin the 12V
