97 12 valve 3500 dually whats it worth????

I am looking to buy my first 12 valve diesel ram.
A guy I know has a 97 dually 4x4 with 95K on it and an extended cab with 8ft bed. No openeing back doors, not sure if they were all like that.
bed liner, 95 K mostly towing and plowing but had regular oil changes and trans checks every year.

The truck has been very well maintained, but has a few dings and dents as he towed a horse trailer with it to shows and plowed with it. Interior is OK but not great. a couple of burn holes here and there and dirty.

I have an 03 hemi truck now thats mint but fuel milage is killing me!

any help is greatly appreciated.

Quad Cab wasn't introduced until 98, so no opening doors is the norm for 97 and under trucks. I'd make sure the trans was taken care, regular band adjustments, fluid/filter changes and flushes. Plowing takes alot out of an auto, and the CTD doesn't help any either.

That said, a clean truck, with strong auto, would be about $10k or more in this area.

Thanks for a quick reply.
Much appreciated.
They did regular service on the transmission they do that with all thier diesels.

How easy are these trucks to mod?

I am looking to add some HP and torque.
I run a Tv7101 detroit turbo on my drag car with a .96 exhaust housing and was thinking one of those with a turbonetics racegate would really wake this thing up if I get it!

Where are you located?

I'd ask $15k or more for that truck.

So 10K 15K and 2K , Thats a big range!!
No offense but this isn't really narrowing down a price for me.LOL

I am in the North east and we don't really see alot of these older 12 valves here the diesel thing took a while to get really popular up here.
Thats why I don't have alot to compare it too.
Ebay was no help there were only three in completed Items and the prices were all over the place.

I do appreciate the replies though.

I guess I should be asking what you guys would be willing to pay for one of these trucks.
Maybe thats a better question

since you're in a tight market the $10K number would probably be close to fair

My dad sold a 97 4x4 3500 qc for 14g in 99 with a little over 100k, bone stock auto. I paid 17.5 g for mine with 137k with k&n drop in filter and no muffler.

The reason everyone throws a different figure at you is because everyone lives in different parts of the US. I'm just saying, if I were selling that truck I'd ask $15k and then probably settle for lower since buyers always haggle with you. Anywhere between $10k to $15k is fair for that truck. It all depends on condition. If it's clean and well-maintained, then don't hesitate to pay more for it even if it seems a little on the high side.

Now, may I suggest you look at 2500's? It would get better fuel economy than a 3500 and it would save you some money on tires down the road.

Around here that truck would bring $13k. My truck is basically the same but 2wd and 5spd and I gave a little under $12k a month ago. The 4x4 brings the value up a little, but the AT drops it a bit too.

second chance, you have to make a new thread from the main forum area, example, this is the 12V forum. When you are there, look to the left at the top of where the questions are and you will see the new thread buttom, from there you should be able to get it.

Welcome aboard!
