'96 Alignment Probs
Took my truck into the line up shop yesterday for front end alignment check before buying new tires and shocks. They said I needed to replace a malfunctioning tracking bar and tie rod end at the pitman arm. I was shocked as my rig only has 48k and I drive it like a little old lady. The mechanic, who has aligned my trucks for almost 15 years, said this is a common problem with Ram 4X4's of this vintage. He said they don't have this problem with Dodge 4X2's. Anyone else had to replace these components on a 2nd generation Ram? Seems Chrysler engineers were preoccupied with making the Ram look tough without beefing up things you don't see that really make a truck capable of standing up to heavy duty service.
Re:'96 Alignment Probs
hmm ......went in for a wheel alignment .......came out with new ball joints.......wheel bearings........track bar & steering box ........don't ask what it cost ......it still hurts
and from talking to other ram owners and a couple shops the front ends in these trucks is weak ........they replace parts all the time.......

Re:'96 Alignment Probs
There are many documented issues with the alignment on the front of these trucks... mainly the 4x4's.
There are many aftermarket parts to replace the stock front end parts that will help out.
Do a search on this site, give our vendors a call, or head to your local 4x4 shop and check out some of the aftermarket stuff.
Rich.
