A common bug has bit me again, my second overhead display has died on the 95. Just wondering what's involved in switching to a 3rd gen unit,,,I know the plug may not match (not sure since I haven't seen a 3rd gen unit) and it's designed to do more than just temp/compass.

Is it a reasonably simple change or a "Heck NO" deal. Also what about temp/compass mirror from a GM product.

well my 99 (sec gen) has more than just compass and temp it has fuel mileage and whatever else but i'm not sure whether it would work up there as far as electrical goes but i'm guessing the 2nd gen would fit better. sorry I can't be of anymore help beyond that

 

I would be surprised if the ecm/pcm's would interface from the different years and run the overhead.

I do recall a thread a long time back asking about the gm mirror working out, but seem to remember it was a no go....

 

'98.5 and newer overheads won't work on the pre '98 trucks.
