2002 no Dim Lights now?
My dads 2002 has a problem. The other night I got in and turned the lights on. Problem! No headlights on dim either side. Brights work great, and so do parks. This is all of a sudden considering I just drove it the night before with no trouble.
Any ideas? Could both dims go bad all of a sudden?

If you have a 12V circuit tester or voltmeter, it's easy to check the lighting system to find the problem. Remove the kick panel below the steering column. There is a bundle of wires coming from the multifunction (dimmer) swich. Locate the light green wire. Connect one end of the tester or the voltmeter to ground. There are several screws going into the frame for the steering column. They are a good ground point. Pierce the light green wire with the probe and turn on the headlights. The light green wire should be grounded and have no voltage. If the tester lights or there is voltage present, then the headlamp switch is defective. If it is grounded, then find the violet wire with a white stripe. Pierce the vt/wt wire with the probe and turn on the headlights. The violet/white wire should have 12V on it when the dimmer switch is in the high beam position and should be grounded or have no voltage in the low beam position. If it has 12V on it all the time, then the multifunction switch is defective.
Now for the good news! If the multifunction switch is defective, you don't have to replace it! If you short the light green wire and the violet/white wire together using whatever method you choose, this will bypass the low beam disconnect part of the multifunction switch. What will happen is the low beam lights will operate on the low beam and high beam position of the dimmer switch. The added bonus is that now you have both filaments lit on high beam giving a better view of the road!
