Auto-dim mirror won't dim

I have an 01 2500. Regarding the mirror, if I depress the button/light on the bottom, it turns "green" but only for as long as keep it depressed. If I release it, the light goes out. The mirror will not "dim" regardless of whether I depress the button/light or not. QUESTION: Is the problem with the mirror itself, or is there a fuse somewhere? -Dan

01 2500, auto, 64Kmi, black, short-bed SLT, stock except for K&N air

It's probably not a dedicated fuse but one tied in with the accesssories. Sounds like the switch is broken on the mirror itself if it won't stay on and the green light has power. I'd get one from the wrecking yard as this doesn't seem like a part that would wear out quickly and the dealer probably wants 3 grand for one! Kurt

Yep, sounds like the switch went out. At the least the mechanism part, or possibly the electrical contact worked itself loose.

If you have a tinted rear window, don't waste money trying to fix the switch.

The tint on the rear window doesn't allow the sensor to see the headlights behind you, so it doesn't dim correctly.
