Gonna need to do two front brake pad jobs soon. Any advice on this task, anything special, special tools or tricks?

Elementary question, how do you know if the rotors need turning, also, should the wheel bearings be repacked everytime the pads are changed?

Thanks.

Spin them and look for warpage and or any large heat cracks. the small ones as far as i have dealt with are ok. it probably wouldnt hurt to repack the bearings while you have it apart

Re:2001 2wd front pads

I have a 2001 3500 2wd and I just replaced the front wheel hub assemblies and checked the brakes while there. I believe you'll need an 18mm and a 22mm open end closed end, with a cheater to get the stubborn ones. I am under the impression that the bearings are sealed maintenance free type. ie: no grease required. Could be wrong and if I am someone please tell me before I smoke the set I just put in. Cause at 239$ per side....well you know. I had no problems or special tools needed and my 6 year helped me do the job. Good luck
