is this a 1998 12v. or 1997
95ram I think your right i used the vin decoder and this truck was sold as a club cab. The 7th digit is the # 2, according to this
http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/VIN_decode.htm
its a club cab. 98 club cab, not really the holy grail but harder to fined. Look for me on Barrett Jackson.

If a total cab r/r took place the door vin will match the dash vin, but that should show up in the registration.
My truck has the vin laser etched in the passenger framerail under the door facing the ground. Found it by accident. there are probably a couple other places it is engraved too but I haven't seen any.

Has it been wrecked or modified. Seems like a lot of work to convert to the newer dash but I am sure someone has probably done it. There are also a lot of mystery trucks in between model years running around out there with changeover parts. Like the few quad cab 12 valvers and some 99 and 2000's with rear discs.
No idea why but if you have one on the truck registration is much cheaper in CA.
A truck is a truck here in CA. Camper shell or not, it's a commercial vehicle and registration is no different. Even little Toyota trucks are considered commercial vehicles because they are trucks. 1/2-, 3/4- or 1-ton designation doesn't matter either.
And mechanical engine or not, '98 and new trucks get smogged, period.

I had a 85 Ford diesel wannabe that had a nice painted to match bed COVER. I bought it that way and it was registered Non-Commercial, I drove the thing for two years with no issues until a possibly bored CHP officer pulled me over for being improperly registered. He said that to be registered Non-Comm I must have a CAMPER (key word?) Shell (canopy) that people can be inside of.....? But as far as I know it IS illegal to have folks inside said Camper Shell while driving
Anyway up here in Shasta County your rig Can be registered non-comm with at least a cab high shell on it but don't let the boys in blue catch ya hauling much in the bed.
Tim
Not so and I wish I could tell you exactly why

Its pretty easy for the Boys in blue to spot a comm and non comm plate all comm plates will only have one letter in them were as non comm hence RV will have three letters. Now for personalzed plates I'm not sure.
Yep. That single letter is always in the 2nd digit position on a commercial plate. My dad has a personalized plate on his '06 MegaCab. No numbers at all.
