1995 vs 1996

I have been in the market for a 1996 to 1998 truck. I found a nice looking 1995 with a DTT transmission. What is the downside of the 1994 to 1995 units? Do they have the same P pumps as the 1996 to 1998 which are so reliable? Is the cab just a quiet?

It's just as reliable as the later p pumps, just not as powerful. The pump has a slightly lower output, and the injectors are smaller. But they will still produce good power. Chris Mayer's 95 was putting down 350+ hp with the small pump and injectors (and 13* timing!) If it is in good shape I'd say go for it. I don't see any reason for the cab to be any louder than the later ones.

I found a GS3K, fuel plate and a bit of timing were necessary to get the truck to make the power it should have stock. That transmission will make a HUGE difference over the stocker. Id take it!

1994 and 1995 Auto tranny trucks are 47RH units.

96+ are RE trannies.

Aftermarket is lacking so far on billet outputs on these trannies (input and intermediate are the same as the RE's) J&H out of CA was making a few from 300M (plenty stout) but other than that.... closed market.

P-Pumps are different. You'd have a 160 pump (if its stock) They make OK power. MOST have irratic and annoying tendencies right off idle. (kinda chatters... flutters.... REALLY hard to explain)

Good news is any P-Pump bolts right up... and they are easy to get ahold of (I traded a set of 370's for my 180 pump)

Other than that, they are pretty much the same.

Nick is right on the money with this one..

so is everyone else who posted on this for that matter. I would jump on the smaller pump truck, and do some shopping around and you can find a decently priced 215 pump. They can all be tuned the same, just u can expect more gains out of the famous 215 pump...
