I just ordered a insight monitor with a pillar mount, has anybody used a pilar mount and did it work ok ? Thanks gordy

 

I have this style and did not like the fit at first. Because the countour of the mount had/showed gaps when placed over the stock pillar towards the windshield and handle. However, I took a heat gun to the mount and collapsed it a bit so there was preload on the two contours and the fit turned out nice.

I like the placement of the Insight, and it works well.

 

Dimmer location.. Behind the light switch, orange wire with brown stripe.

Good info, Im home and will be working on this in the morning.

The autometer pyro probe I dont like. Its seems like it would have an exhaust leak. Its just pushed into the NPT adapter and held in place with a set screw.

I wonder if I could use my Edge probe. Much better design and seems like I could splice it into the Auto meter harness.

Seems like you can alter the lenght of the wire... Crap.

 

That doesn't sound like the right adapter for the EGT probe. My Autometer system years ago came with the compression fitting. That sounds like a pipe adapter for the exhaust system, not the manifold. If you are into the Swagelok fittings for instrumentation, you can just pick up a fitting and drill it out to accept the pyro.

The thermocouple should be the same for both systems, not much variety there.

 

Its designed to be used for either the pipe setup or the NPT setup. It worked well with no leaks so Ill leave it for now.


Gauges are in!

Everything went well, bout 3 hours of work. Here are some pics, they are not the best, was in a hurry.










They are a spot on match for the factory though. They look great! Even the illumination is colored perfect.

The only (slight) issue I have is that the illumination is too bright. I wired it to the wire mentioned, also checked that it dimmed with the roller switch, and they do, but only about half as much as the dash. I wonder if there is something, like a resistor, that could be wired to decrease the illumination voltage and dim it down a bit.

Another thing I noticed is that the boost needle is a bit shaky. When it starts to peak at top boost it looks like its vibrating in place. Any ideas???

As far as illumination, its the LED lighting that does that. There is a harness with a variable resistor pot you can get from Autometer to help with it. My EV2s pulse if I go too low on the dash dial and go out. I need the same type of device, but I might just leave it.. It wasn't too bad overhead, but might be more in your face on the pillar.

The boost is electronic or analog?

Yes, duh... a potentiometer, (or rheostat) as we in the welding world call them, geez, how could I forget about those...

The boost gauge is analog (mechanical).
