Gauges Install

New lil area for me.

About to sell the EJA and get some manual gauges. Just want to make sure I have everything ready for the install as I havent done a set of them yet. I really like the look of the Autometer Factory Match set.

EGT, not worried, already have the manifold drilled and tapped from the EJA

Boost, I was just enlighted to the boost bolt. Will be ordering one of those.

Now, for the tranny. I was preparing to drop the pan and drill and tap there. What other options is there to install the sending unit. How did you guys that have em install yours. Im looking for ease and simplicity. I have seen inline kits for the plumbing lines. Have also seen something about a test port adapter. Unfamiliar with this stuff.

Give me some ideas.

If I have to spend a few bucks on a widget that makes it simple and easy, thats what Im looking for.

Thanks in advance fellas.

I tapped into my block off plate for boost. Did a boost bolt in my 06 it is stupid simple. Just make sure you put the bolt closest to the valve cover the outside bolts have no airflow. I put my fuel pressure in the CP3 inlet line off the MK2. I got a Mag Hytec deep pan for my trans. I recommend the deep pan if you got the money to spare since you said you might drop the pan and tap.
Below are some other trans temp options

Trans Temp Fitting.
Installs in the cooler feed line, have to cut out an inch of the line to put it in. I was going to go this route but got the pan instead.

Genos Garage has an AcuTemp adapter that fits over the cooler line without having to cut. It doesnt touch the fluid just reads heat transfer from the cooler line.

How accurate is the acu temp clamp on. Seems like it would be the easiet, but ergo, most unreliable.

What are the benefits of the double deep. I assume more fluid, better cooling. May go that route. Im due for a filter change anyway. I was told by the dealer that there was no gasket on the 68re, to use rtv silicone.

The acutemp is supposed to be pretty dead on. I like the double deep pan. Gives me more fluid and better cooling over the stocker. It also has a magnetic drain plug so you can drain fluid without dropping the pan. The Mag Hytec pan comes with a gasket.

Looks like a mag hytec may be in my future.

I take it that for the temp probe its just a simple drill and tap operation for a 1/8 npt.

Yeah drill and tap for 1/8 NPT. If you get the Mag Hytec all you do is take out the plug and put the sender in.

But wouldnt that leave the sending unit under the pan?

I do a fair amount of off road driving on pipe line right of ways and wouldnt want it to get ripped off or out and leave me with a leaking trans pan.

I would rather drill it on the side of the pan.

You can see the drain plug, its recessed into the pan a little. The sender goes in at the back of the pan (left in the pic) up at the top. Theres about 5 inches of pan before the sending unit port. So youd have bigger problems if you busted the sender off.

I want to say it took 11 qts. It holds 17 with the factory pan and the double deep holds an additional 3. There are two filters for the 68, a srew on and the flat filter. Make sure you get the 4x4 flat filter.

I have a good friend that has a local 4x4 shop that does all my tire business. I think he uses Hell Bent stuff, not sure.
