Won't start, injector pump???
Won't start, injector pump???
My buddy has a 01 with about 40000 on it. the other day it he started it and it ran for a few minutes and died. He thought maybe it gelled up on him, but its not that cold here,20-30 degrees. So he changed the fuel filter and poured some anti gel in with some number 2 in fired and ran for about fifteen seconds then died hasn't got it to start since. I thought it was the LP but you can here it kick in and run and the fuel filter canister is full, so what would it be. Could it be the injector pump died. Any help??
Thanks

Take this with a grain of salt, because I'm not a diesel knowledgeable person, but is the truck putting out any codes?
Same thing happened to me a while back, 2 injector pumps later........But the codes were present telling me and the dealership exactly what was happening.

You might try loosening three of the injector nuts, turn it over until fuel comes out of all three steady, tighten them up and see if it starts. You might have picked up some air in the pump and then aggrevated it by changing the filter.
WARNING !!!!
With the high pressures diesel injection systems provide the fuel spray from loose injector lines etc can be that harsh that it penetrates skin !
Diesel fuel in the organism can lead to death or the necessity to quickly amputate the body part that got affected.
I know that these are the extreme results, but it's better to be very cautious with this stuff!
If you suspect a leaky injector line do always use a piece of cardboard to make an eventual fuel mist visible, use gloves and protective gear. Crawling over the running engine looking for the source of the fuel spray can ruin your day.

well we played with it a little more tonight, to cold out
and took the line lose from the LP that comes from the tank. no fuel came out of the tank, or line, the tank is 3/4s full. Tried to blow in to the line but couldn't. Could there just be something stuck in the line that pluged it? If so can we try to blow it out with an air compressor, theres not a check vavle or anything in there we will hurt is there?? Thanks

ARAcummins I noticed that you think the pump is working because you heard it " kick in and run" just because it is buzzing away doesn't mean it is pumping fuel, they will run and not pump anything. I would disconnect the line that runs from the lift pump to the filter cannister at the cannister and see if there is any fuel being pumped to the cannister, make sure you have a good size container to put the end of that line in because if the pump is working it will run for about 30 sec. and that is a lot of fuel
At least this way you will know for sure if the pump is working or not. Hope this helps.

I'm having similiar problems with my 3rd gen. engine. The truck started and ran for about 2 minutes and then died. It started again for about 20 seconds and then it would only run for a few seconds and die. Took it to the dealer they said my fuel sending unit was bad and I was out of fuel. I took it home and it happened again the next day. This time they said it was ice in the tank that they had to remove. They removed the ice and installed the new fuel sending unit. About two weeks later it did it again. New dealer this time said it is the injector pump. Still waiting to get it back.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hit the nail on the head. Your lp will probably pump fuel, but it won't suck from the tank. On my 2nd lp I used a hose and rag in the filler tube. I would take the hose off from the lp to the filter canister and put it in a jug or something, then I had someone bump the starter then I would blow into the hose to pressurize the tank, this would prime the lp while it was running I would hook it up to the filter canister.
By the way if this is the case, the lp needs to replaced its on its way out.
