I would clean and tighten battery connections first, remember grounds off first and on last. Try putting head lights on are they bright? What voltage do you have? Try starting if headlights stay bright and starter just clicks, bad starter. If headlights dim, bad battery. Sometimes I can get engine started if you tap starter with hammer while someone tries to start, if starter is going out. Good luck

If you are just getting a click and nothing happens, it is bad starter contacts. This is a common problem and you can just replace the contacts. Don't replace the whole starter as they are usually still fine. PM me and I will set you up with a contact kit. This is about 1/5 the cost of a new starter and very simple to do.

This is probably the problem. Have you had any problems with the starter staying on either? That is another tell-tale sign of bad starter contacts. In fact I have the same problem as you right now, I got new contacts and a plunger coming in the mail for $40 shipped . NAPA wanted $220 for a new starter....

Do a search and you'll find alot of info, including a rebuild thread and a place to buy contacts.

www.sutherlanddiesel.com for starter contacts. This kit is a little more than others but you get the spring, gasket and also new insulators and nuts in case you round one off when you take it apart. I have seen cracked insulators before to. A very complete kit. FYI.
