Wild swings in fuel pressure

The last two days of driving and monitoring pump pressure has now gained some new knowledge. My pump pressures when first installed it was :

idle - 9-11
cruise - 6-8
WOT - 3

Now my fuel pressure when it stays still is about 5 PSI. the highest it has swung was 20 PSI, and it has bottomed out at zero a few times. And i have also had fuel pressure any where in between.

My guess is i that my LP is on its last legs and is on the edge of a quick and miserble death?

Sorry to say JR your LP is very weak as shown with the number above. I would get a LP or pusher pump quick.

Normally what I'm getting is...

Idle - 14-15
Cruise 12-13
WOT - 7-8

I still not liking the idea of the pressure being 7-8 at WOT when the VP44 is being spun at close to 3K RPM's!!! I don't think there is quite enough fuel for cooling and lubing at that low of pressure... IMHO...

Change the LP and change it today.

I advise looking into a relocation kit. I'm running a vulcan and I love it. I don't see below 12psi @ WOT. Install your new lift pump and the relocation kit, you'll love it. It moves the LP down to tank level so it's a push pump and not a pull pump.

FASS or FASS II and your fuel pressure worries are over! There was a push pump on my wifes 2k(Carter) when we bought it. Wired to cycle with the stock lp. That setup was a pain in the butt from the get go. The Carter push pump started to have issues and stop working now and then. When it did, it would act like a shutoff valve and cut ALL fuel off from the stock lp..
Anyway after a few times like this and the push pump went in the trash until I could do something different. And that something different was the FASS system.. Yes its expensive...but its worth it..
Idle pressure sits at 15lbs and WOT with the DDII's and Edge dont go under 12lbs with the -8an lines I have on the truck..

I would agree with rharveysr. If you want to fix your problem get a after market fuel pump. I would also recommend a FASS or FASS II but there are others out there that some people are using with good success. It just depends on what you want to do.
