where is the check balls in the tranny cooler lines??
where is the check ***** in the tranny cooler lines??
my friends transmission sometimes gets hot, out of nowhere, it will get boiling hot from cold to 5 miles down the road, the tranny cooler lines and the cooler will be cool to the touch. take the lines off the cooler, no flow at all, then other times, it will flow so much it will fill a gallon jug in seconds at idle in neutral. i cant figure it out, i looked for the check ***** or whatever, but i couldnt find any check *****, where are they located? up front by the radiator? could this problem be something else? we just pulled the valve body off and cleaned it, replaced oil and filter and all electronics. it never had an overheating problem before. i would remove these check ***** if i could find them. or it idk. but i done see them anywhere, the truck is a 2001
ok, somebody already took the check ***** out of the cooler line. but it sometimes does not flow oil to the cooler, why!!? there is some other reason that this trans does not flow oil from time to time, is there a thermostat ????
Does it flow in neutral everytime you've checked it? Valve bodies designed to flow fuild only when tranny. is in gear thats why most tranny's will "slip" when you just jump in when cold and drop into gear. Good practice to start and put into neutral for a minute before leaving. Or put a system correction kit in and fix the problem they allow fluid to flow in park as well as all gears.Sounds to me like you have convertor problems thats your "pump". When you cleaned V.B did you pull V.B apart or just spray off the exterior? Could have a sticking check ball in V.B. Nate
i took the valve body completely apart and took every valve out, cleaned the valves, freed them up, made sure every spring every valve every check ball-shuttle ball went back in the exact same spot it came out of. this is a all or nothing situation, sometimes, the tranny will push fluid through the cooler at a rate of like a gallon per 15 seconds, other times.. absolutely nothing!! theres never an in between. sometimes the truck can be driven all day long, no problem, other times you start it in the morning, go 5 miles down the road and tranny temp light comes on, lose gears, you can hear the oil boiling inside the tranny!!! i noticed 6 plastic ***** were 1/4 inch and one plastic was 5/16 in one part of the valve body, and there were 2 steel ***** in another part of the valve body, one 1/4 steel and one 5/16 steel, i was watching an in depth video on youtube showing where all the check ***** were located. this video never said anything about the 5/16 steel check ball being in the tranny. theres a definate spot machined into the valve body where it came from, thats where i put it back, but there was no gunk in the valve body,
if i take this valve body off the truck again, which hole in the tranny is the one that sends fluid to the cooler?? is it one of those holes up front just behind the tranny pan bolt holes?

Without a manual I couldn't help you with either of your questions, I think your convertor is going south.....JMO Nate
