Whats the best?
I think i'm up for a second VP with only 70,000 miles!
This last one was put in about a year and a half ago by the dealer. When the truck is warm it takes a second to start. When its cold there is not a problem. I just had a FASS II installed and cant see why that would cause it since it starts fine cold. What I'm wondering is if the SHO, HO, or SO last longer than the others? I figure if I'm going to waste the money on a new (rebuilt) pump might as well get the best i can.
Thanks guys.

your problem is most likely a week spring in the vp44. I ran in to the same problem when i installed my fass. in order to correct it i had 2 options ! replace vp or install a 4psi hobbs oil switch on the Fass. to check if your fass is causing it do this test.... get some one to help ,then when its hot and wont start up like it should unplug the fass and try and start it. if it starts shut it off asap. that will let you know the sping in the vp is bad . on mine what I had to do was use a 4psi hobbs oil pressure switch that is hooked to the oil test port on the filter head. then I had a SS oil line made ,like the turbo oil line and put the hobbs switch on the end (was not enough room to mount on filter head without moving heater coolant pipes )and wired the fass power to it, when you start it as soon as oil pressure hits 4 psi the fass will turn on and fuel pressure is back to normal. havent had any problem since.
hope this helps

I wonder how this would help since I let the pressure drop to zero before i start it. If this was the problem, wouldn’t it happen on cold start also? Thank you for posting, if no one else chimes in with any other ideas I’ll give it a try. Hasn’t actually died on me yet
I’m surprised that no one shared their opinion on which VP to go with, the super high output, high output, or the standard output again?

FASS has listed that you could indeed have the problem mentioned above. If you let your fuel pressure drop too low at any point when running it will damage the VP just enough to make your situation appear after you install the FASS system.
