What Transmission Do I Have?

Hey Guy's,
I'm new to the board and I have to say that I love the info on it. I own a semi truck with a cummins and just think the cummins power is awesome. So I bought a 1997 2500 4x4 Ram with a cummins. Every since I added some extra horsepower to the motor I have had the tranny rebuilt 3 times and I'm still having tranny problems. Less than 5k miles and its toast again. I know these tranny's are really prone to have lots of problems. So I'm not gonna mess around with it. I'm gonna purchase a real tranny from ATS I think. I just need to know what tranny do I have and can I upgrade this thing to a newer or stronger version on steroids. I think its a 46le or something like that. COST IS NOT A PROBLEM I just want it to work hard and for a long time without problems. Otherwise I'm going to a manual truck. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
Dennis

I believe you have the 47RE. You might have the 47rh though. Either way ATS or any of the other big companies can build you an indestructible tranny.

Yup, 47RE is what it is, 95 was the last year for the 47RH.

Definately a 47RE. Since you are so close to DTT you should check them tou for your tranny. www.dieseltrans.com You can also check out Goerends Brothers Transmissions too. www.gbtransmissions.com

DTT gets my vote. I believe they build the best tranny available... pay more attention to the entire trans and strengthen all areas.

Thumbs up

Thanks Guy's. Sorry for the late response but I have been fighting snow storms and getting shut down on the passes. Winter has arrived and now the truckin gets fun. Anyway's thanks for the help. Good to know its a 47 cause I thought is was a 46 and would have been ****** if I had ordered one. I will check out DTT. If their stuff rocks like all of you say, I'll be happy to put it to the test.
Thanks Again

Yup, defently a 47re----You should be happy w/ the DTT tranny. As stated above, consider all options on beefing the tranny, Chrysler trannies aren't that bad once you remove some material from the VBs, and beef up the internals a bit, it will hold your Cummins (hopefully). Also consider a billet TC....
Goodluck and welcome.
