Good morning guys, So this is my first Cummins 24v project, I picked up my truck from an auction for cheap and brought it home,
The truck is plagued with oil leaks, So my first step was removing the vacuum pump to install a seal kit, also replace the old lines while I'm at it.
Now that I removed the pump I got looking and noticed these vertical cracks along the motor.
After a bit of research i found some info on a tippet cover gasket/pushrod cover. I took a picture and I need some help to determine what I'm looking at. Driver side, just above the vacuum pump
can anyone tell me if those cracks is something I can fix.
Likely agree with Sixlug. I replaced mine a few months back... wow, what a chore. Good thing is that it doesn't appear to be leaking.
When it does start leaking, replacement of the part will be about $20 but just about everything has to be removed from the driver side of the block, including the VP injector pump to get the cover removed. Likely an all day project unless really good at wrenching. I did it by myself.
One thing I did notice is that my overall engine internal pressure increased as I'm now getting more out of the front breather tube and now having to extend it even further to prevent oil getting up into the radiator/engine area.
