What company sells the best quality stock VP44?
P1689 is no communication between ECM and Injection Pump
I would start by double checking the wiring harness that plugs into the back of VP-44.
Is that the only code you got?
After reading other threads it looks like a APPS reset works for some people so I would try that. If you have an EDGE or similar unplug it
There is only one place to buy a VP-44 from, Blue Chip Diesel. The best rebuilt pumps out there, PERIOD. His pumps are built to his specs by bosch. All pumps have a steel insert for the rotor, no one else does. His computer on top is always new and the upgraded FED-EX computer. Most rebuilt pumps do not come with a new computer.

I'm trying to take out my D-Box. The D-box has 3 connections in to the stock harness, I found the locations for 2 of the connections but the 3rd one I dont know where the stock plug is at. The missing connector plugs in to a large flat 3 pin connector that barely comes out of the harness on the drivers side of the motor in between the pcm and vp44 twords the lower end of the block. I will try reseting the apps
I emailed Pensacola and MWFI about what they replace. This is MWFI's response.
"Hello, and thanks for your inquiry. All of our pumps utilize the latest
genuine Bosch parts that are the latest versions, and calibrated on a
computerized Bosch test stand with the latest software. The housings are
always changed, and the electronics are replaced with the latest new updated versions. We have had great luck with them, with our biggest issues of running problems with our pumps being the mechanic crushing the keyway in the pump drive gear when installing it. That all being said, the rebuilt
pump will still fail if fuel pressure from the supply pump is low. We do not
insist that you buy a new supply pump from us, but we will require a receipt
for a recent supply pump purchase to accompany any warranty submissions.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks again for
your inquiry."
And Pensacola Diesel's response.
"the housing is new on all pumps, it is anew housing updated by bosch. we do not replace all electronics everytime. just depends on the unit."
I would pay a little more and get new electronics, and not a new pump with 200,000 mile electronics.

If I remember right, didn't someone way back yonder find out that all rebuilt VP44's come with the fed-ex electronics. If that's the case, then blue chips only advantage at almost 500 dollars is a different rotor? Can anyone verify any of this?
So what are we talkin here...$1K for the MWFI pump and $1500 for the Blue Chip...that's the cost (no core) both without core charges if core shipped within 30 days? So blue chip is the only one using new electronics and the rest don't touch the electronics when they rebuild?? I thought the electronics were one of the weak points due to heating causing malfunction...if that's true shouldn't all reman units update this for new electronics, rather than leave it in there when it's had a bunch of miles on it??
I've said it a couple of times, but I guess it's worth repeating. Bosch certified pump shops have to rebuild the vp44 per Bosch's standards. They have a master test pump to compare too and their pumps stands get audited. When Bosch comes out with updates for the VP44, all VP44s will get the updates, this includes the electronics!
If you order a pump and are unsure as to what has been done, you can call Bosch and give them your pump serial number and they will tell you. If paying $1500 for a VP44 gives you the warm fuzzes, then more power to you. Most pump shops will offer a 12 month warranty anyway. If you tap the wire then you're on your own, as it should be.....IMHO

My truck is fixed, the problem was not the vp44 when the P1689 code came up.
Also my pump from mwfi did not have a new housing, that same housing looked like it was rebuilt at least 3 other times before it ended up in my hands due to the previous restamping.

I appears as though Pensacola uses new housings, per their response, while MWFI "changes" the housing, per their response. Danged if you do and danged if you don't, huh. Does BlueChip replace everything?
