What block is in a 2000 with a 6 speed

I was looking at a 2000 quad cab long bed with a 6 speed this weekend. It's a nice looking truck, drives well and everything. 66,000 miles, power everything, 4x4, .
The dealer agreed to wholesale it to a dealer I know for 16,600

I'm concerned about the block, is it a '53' block, like an idiot I forgot to look and I'm not going to be able to look at it again for a while.

What's the chance of it having a '53' block?
I'd hate to wind up with a cracked block down the road one day.

Thanks
Mike

Check out this link, it tough me a lot... http://www.stamey.nu/Truck/Cummins53BlockFAQ.htm

It's one of, if not the best source of info on the 53 blocks I have ever seen.

I might add that the blocks themselves are not a death sentence, I have read from people that have 200000+ on them, and several high horsepower 53 blocks as well.

Mine has 105000 on it. Yeah I know that aint that much, my powerjoke had 280000 when I sold it, but I'm on my way and I'm not gonna worry about the block.

Mines a 2000 with a #53 block with 117k. I would say it is likely a 53 block

Well, its home now and good or bad its a 53, but at least the powerjoke is going down the road soon. That only has 133,000 on it and I've had the motor out already (its a long story and I don't want to go into it).

The 53 is towards the the front of the engine, above were the oil pan bolts on.

53 is in one inch block letters. You cannot miss it.

Mine is not a 53, and has a list of smaller #s.

I think there are 55 and 56 blocks as well.

If you've already bought it, just drive it, have fun and don't worry about it. There are alot of block 53's out there that aren't having any problems. When I first saw a post on the 53's I ran out and checked mine ----- and it wasn't. But as I said there are a bunch on the road still runnin strong.

From what I have read, the 53's have problems if you tow way more than you're supposed to, and "Bomb" it. So stock or mildly bombed with moderate loads should be fine. Just drive it! (If you can afford diesel!!) My 01 has the 55 block in it.

It can have a 53 if it is a 2000, but it might not either.

Thats exactly what I'm going to do with it, run it. I don't think I can keep up with my silver 93, but they make things to fix that.
