it went KABOOM...
do the 3 key cycle and pull your codes,
see if any visual other than normal leaks external.
look at the face of your turbo.
check your oil
check your coolant incase of crossing with oil.
get a 3/4 wrench and undo the heads of a injector
bump start the motor by turning your key and not starting it this will make your lift pump push fuel through the vp and hopefully to the injectors. (still that doesn't mean your VP is good or bad)
was the bang like a tire blowing or a metallic bang.
check your air path from turbo to intercooler. all the boots. and back to the head same thing. your inner fender wells if you look under neath they are prone to rub into the lower intercooler boots.
do the easy stuff first before you start the truck
just incase so if it was a hard part your not doing more damage.

now no one answered the what vp44? and what lift pump? see my sig for what i am running, i dont think the stanadyne has enough volume, it reads 10-12 idle and down to 6-7 load, i know more fuel ='s more cooling, so i think it is time for the full fuel replace and upgrade, did these 2000 trucks have the in tank pump too? forgot to look at that
FWIW, I'm running AirDog with a 2 micron filter. Pressure is 15# at idle and never lower than 13#. MWFI says bad fuel is what took out my pump, not bad pump. It still comes down to $1,000 & 4 hrs labor (mine in this case). Easy job. Will never pay a shop to do it. Read the FSM, watch dieseldanmac videos on youtube if you want more info.

does that airdog mount where the stock filter and pump would have been? my pump is on the driver side frame and i want to move it off of there and get it somewhere cleaner and easier to get to etc...
I just had a very similar situation this past weekend.....
Towing 6,000 lbs, I was in it hard, merging into traffic... Then I heard the same loud BANG!!!! and a lot of black smoke..
Pulled over and found a loose turbo hose..
Fixed it and it blew again....
Fixed it again and drove mildly the rest of the way.. Kept it under 20psi.
Looking for a permanent fix now so that I am not afraid to run it full on at 40psi.....

?
No real benefit, that is just what my truck will pull under hard acceleration..
I guess with all my fueling, I am getting more boost than necessary. Generally keep it at a max of 35psi.
I guess I could dial the boost elbow in a little and bring the boost down, but it runs strong and pulls hard all the way into the 40psi range.....

Not real sure what you are asking??
I run ->
110hp injectors(more fuel)
Quad Xzilliraider (normally set on 90hp)
Van Aaken (40hp al the time)
and the boost elbow turned all the way in.
That is how I am getting 40 psi.
Once it shifts out of first and I let out of it a little, the truck settles downto about 30-35psi....
This is not all the time. Just merging onto highway towing my trailer or having fun at the lights.
Normally I never see more than 30psi on an average day.

got a buddy who is a dodge tech and he's gonna show me whats up so i can know how to do this again one day

one of the things I like about the VP44 is its quick and simple to R&R
to OP, I second checking intercooler boots, etc. I removed a clamp to the intercooler boot on lower driver side one time and forgot to tighten it back after I was done.......
got on the pedal hard a few days later and BAM!!! sounded like a horrible explosion and I was trying to find a soft spot bail in the bar-ditch. After realizing nothing was on fire and the truck was still running, and brakes worked, I pulled it over and checked things out.
the intercooler boot had popped off under lots of ?boost pressure? i suppose.
put the boot back on and tightened the clamp, no more problems, smooth sailing
