Weird idling issue
Hey guys,

Got in the truck this morning and started her up. I was sitting there talking on the radio to work and I thought the truck was idling differently so I look at the tach, and I see it flucuating up and down about 50-100 rpms or so, contstant.

The truck seemed to run fine, plenty of power etc, but when I would get to a light it would still go up and down on the rpm's. After about 3-4 minutes of driving the truck, it stopped and was rock steady the rest of the way to work.

I don't know if any of you have seen something like this before, but I'm curious if you have.
Re:Weird idling issue
Mine has done that before, it will idle rough and clear up in a few seconds. Don't know what causes it but don't think it's anything serious. It might be a lack of fuel for a second, somebody will know what it is.
[/quote]

hehe, no. I've chilled out on the bombing for a while. I have some other things I need to spend my money on, so I've taken a "leave of absence" so to speak. ;D

This is definately not the heater. This is much faster than that. It hasn't done it since the other day though, so it could have been some air in fuel or something.
Re:Weird idling issue
Mine has had the 50-100 rpm fluctuation on the guage ever since it was new. I kept my eye on it, but the truck runs great so I passed it off as being a "DIESEL". Run a little rougher than a "gaser". As long as the truck runs good, I would not worry about it.

P.S. What does everyones truck "idle" at???
Re:Weird idling issue
My '01.5 just started doing it a week ago, but not at every start-up. Just changed fuel filter and ran fine for a week before starting the fluctuation. Seems to have no effect on acceleration at all, wouldn't the crank sensor be faultly at all rpm's?

Re:Weird idling issue
Never thought about the crank sensor guys, but maybe that's something I need to check. Never saw this problem until I put the new pump on last week. So far, the truck is running fine once accelerating, and it doesn't last long, only for a minute or two when I first start the truck in the morning, then it's solid the rest of the day.
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Re:Weird idling issue
If it is only first thing in the morning and only for a few minutes maybe the choke is stuck closed.
