have friend with 99 dodge has intermintent starting issues seems be only after its warmed up give 20 to 30 min cool down and starts up fine.have not gotten chance to read codes. any ideas

 

Thats what happened when my VP44 went south. Good chance the lift pump has taken a dump and starved the injector pump. I hope Im not right ($$)
But its what happened to me.

 

read codes think it was a p0336 crank position sensor cummins told him could be it how hard are they to replace,location, need any speciality tools.

Looks like it's behind the starter, no special tools, just be ready for a battle if it's got some corrosion on it. Most estimates I saw claimed ~1hr to pull and replace.

 

Thats what mine did also, would start perfectly when cold, after it warmed up it was hit and miss if it would start unless let sit to cool down. I installed new VP44 and now it starts all the time and has more power.
