Wait to start issues
It's the ECM
Sorry I'm not too often here so I didn't see this one earlier.
What you're describing is without doubt a bad ECM.
When you turn on the key switch 12V is applied to pin 5 of the ECM. When the ECM senses that voltage it runs a self test for the first 2 seconds and turns on the wait to start light.
That has to happen every time the key is turned to on.
Since you say that the wait to start light comes on after 30 or so seconds I would say that the CPU in the ECM is gone.
Hope this helps.

Maybe not related at all, but when I start my truck up I always have to wait for the "wait to start" light to go out.
My truck will not start without this light going out... It just cranks and cranks. Wait for the light to go out and BANG - it jumps to life.
Biggest problem with this is when wife or friends borrow the truck. They sometimes call informing me that my truck is just cranking over and not starting. I have to tell them to wait until the "Wait to start" light goes out (Duuuh). Then it just fires right up.
Is this the same thing?

McGyver,
Mine will just crank until the wait to start finally comes on..... if i turn the key to the run position and wait about 15 to 30 seconds then the light appears and i can start it ,,,, but thanks

Sorry!
McGyver,
Sorry to tell you that... Your ECM is bad too...
I've swapped CPU's before but it's one hell of a job! Add that to the shipping costs, down time....
What progress should I've made for the 04.5? I know how the SW works...

So Marco , if Ken was to send you the ECM , could you fix that CPU in the ECM ? and have you had any progress with the CM 848 that is used in the 04.5 3rd gen.
