Ok, so I guess I will start out with a small history of the truck, then move on. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel that has an Edge COMP, 4" open exhaust, AFE stage 2 intake, Banks highram elbow intake, wastegated stock turbo making 29lbs of boost, BD Flexplate, Banks torque converter.

The truck has about 63,900ish miles on it, and I only do about 2000-3000 a year now on it. I had a FASS 150/150 installed on the truck because I could tell the truck had a lack of fuel problem (not enough power). After getting the truck back I had it dyno'd and it ran a 353 HP w/ 4.10 gears and 33" tires.

While on the dyno it threw up a check engine light. When the codes were read it stated that the VP44 was failing, and had 249 starts on it since it had started failing. For me that would be about a year as I drive it once or twice a week. The guys estimated as little as I drive it I could get another 9-16 months out of the VP44 as its not showing problems yet.

So, my question is this, is the computer right or is it not liking the FASS putting so much pressure into the VP44? If the VP44 is going, what would you recommend I replace it with, the local Diesel performance shop said they could get a dodge spec reman for about $1100 + labor (4 hours), a BD for about $1500 + labor, but I found on here a Blue Chip VP44 for about $1930 + shipping and labor. If I do a VP44 I might as well do injectors, and if so, what would you recommend?

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to make sure you had all the info needed to make a good recommendation.

Do not buy a VP44 from http://www.mwfi.com/ The pump is from Czech Republic, it wont last a year. There service is the worst and there warrenty is worthless thats why they dont show you the fine print on the warrenty.

 

I have delt with them and had some warranty problems taken care of without question. I would use them again in a heartbeat. What was your issue?

 

When I first ordered my VP44 they forgot to include the Oring and ect. So my daily driver truck was down for a few days. And if you want to warranty a VP44 through them you have to first send them over $1000 untill they are done testing the pump to see if the customer is responsible for the damaged pump. And if they void your warranty you can kiss that $1000 good bye on another junk pump from CZ.

 

Certain companies have a policy they follow. I had a ford pump and an injector warrantied and both time they sent parts and a UPS pick up slip for the defective ones no questions asked. With all the VP44 issues and mis diagnostics I can see why they want to be sure. Did they screw you over or did they take care of you?

Have done business with Pensacola Diesel five times now. Last price I checked was 995 for genuine Bosch reman, 113 for replacement lift pump, and 217 for aftermarket injectors. All have been perfect. JMHO

 

Blue Chip is #1 in my book as well. When you call for sales, or tech support you will usually get transfered to the owners cell phone. (if he's not in the office) and will always get right back to you if you need to leave a message after hours. I got the special X and would buy another in a heart beat. Good luck.

 

After doing some more research I want to ask all the special X owners what they think of that pump, how many miles you have on it, and does your truck still pass emissions tests? I live in CO, and to fail you have to have a 35% or higher emissions particulate count. I ran an emissions test last month and got 12% w/ the Edge Comp turned off and cleaned out the engine by running it a little hard. Would a special X and slightly larger injectors make it fail emissions?

 

Any special X owners out there?

 

I bought my pump from Midwest from recommendations from alot of people. They were good to deal with and no core charge also UPS return paid by them.

Dont know about this czech thing is all about. Besides CZ is known for good products. Nowere on my pump did it say czech, just germany

 

Yup ...gets 2.5 mpg more then the stock pump did(old pumps electronics burned up) not my personal truck but I maintain 9 trucks for the guy next door 1 chevy 6.5 the rest are 99-06 Dodges Cummins we have installed 3 blue chips 2 are spec.X
