the diaphram reduces the shock in the pump from the injectors
closing. Air gets in the pump (IE runinng out of fuel,changing fuel filters)
instead of letting the truck idle to clear the air you rev the engine the
back pressure from the injectors closing slamms the diaphram with no
fuel to support it a crack develops and problems start.
