VP44 install question
VP44 install question
Greetings all,
I posted a week or so ago with my symptoms of surge at 2000 rpm with
light throttle. Basic idea of the responses was that my VP44 or lift pump was iffy.
Further assistance from this forum showed me how to check codes and I found the
dreaded P0216. Soooo I take it to the local dodge dealer and give them the lowdown
and they agree with me and change the VP44 under warranty (I have 92K miles) which was
nice. BTW they checled the LP and found it had good pressure and flow. I get the truck back and find less power, worse milage and now the P0216 is back. A read of my shop manual
indicates that the VP44 needs to be installed with a matched key for the drive gear or
another timing error will come up. I looked my engine and it does not look like the timing
cover has been off and they billed DC 3 hours for the job. Question: It sounds to me like they might have just bolted a new pump on, does that seem reasonable given my new problems? Also I'm not sure they put on the correct VP44 as I have a 02 H.O engine with the 6 speed. If they put the wrong VP44 in what would happen. Lastly is it safe to drive
in this condition?
any thoughts would be great.

vp44
Hi Paul,
The timing cover does not have to come off to swap pump, your breather will unscrew which gives you access to the shaft nut on the vp44.I would take it back to dealer under warrenty and have them fix it.
