vp44 pump differences

Hi,I'm a certified diesel mechanic for peterbilt trucks & I just so happen to be certified in B & C ceries Cummins engines. There really is no difference between the pumps externally or internally, they both do the same thing. Where you run into the difference is the horse power rating on the engine. There are #'s stamped on each pump that tell you what date it was built on & you dont want to get any pumps built on or before 12/03 due to having a stainless steel bushing in the rotary pump which would sieze up & cause pump to fail, the pumps built after 01/04 have a bronze bushing and are great pumps. Bottom line is that the pump will work on any engine just beware of the dates on the pumps which if you call your local cummins dealer they will tell you what date pump you have. Hope this helps you out.

Very interesting. What about rebuilt VP44's that are bought from vendors others the a Cummins dealer? Will they have the bronze bushing?
