VP44 Culprit??????
VP44 Culprit??????
Well my VP is dead as some know, When I bought this truck 5months ago I hooked up a fuel press. light, and it was instantly on...So I have no clue how long the lift pump was out, So I installed a new lift pump and it has run fine till last Thursday..now dead I have been waiting on my pump, I crawled under the truck to check the tank vent, due to I read it being plugged could cause a VP failure and sure enough it was plugged with dirt.....So question will and did this destroy my pump.....thanks...
Chances are your pump was basically done before you replaced the lift pump. The problem is they usually run quite a while with very low fuel pressure which hurts them. Then by the time the lift pump is replaced the injection pump is usually not too far behind it. The plugged problem probably added to the failure, but it most likely was the lift pump that did the damage.

This is a pretty common problem and this is what that light kit was designed for. Think of it as a $65 insurance program against a $2000 pump job.
