I am having a LP replaced as I post this, mechanic says the IP has been damaged. Says it could take a dump tomarrow or go on along time.
If it goes,( or when) what are my options for replacement?

did it throw a code--if it didn't then why change the IP pump---now with that being said your VP will fail and it could be tomorrow or it could be in a couple of years or longer---but if it threw a code then I'd think about changing it now---for pumps you can get stock ones, Hot rod pumps(HRVP) or the new monster pumps(hard to get in a timely fashion though unless you're lucky)---or you could P-pump it----but since your truck looks mostly stock I'd look at a stock replacement---but tell us if there's a code that's been thrown----chris

0216 means problems with the VP44 or the IP--probably smart to change it--

1693 is a generic code for lot's of things---always minor things, but it shows up a lot when almost all other codes are thrown--

vp44 = IP = injection pump = 1k + labor. p-pump is a IP for a 12v. LP = lift pump some times it's in the tank (retro fit)

on 12valve trucks they have a mechanical lift pump--basically like an old chevy fuel pump that was actuated by a rod --this lift pump(or transfer pump) transfers fuel from the fuel tank to the high pressure pump called a P-pump--the P-pump then pressurizes(high pressure) the fuel and sends it to the injectors...

a 24 valve truck has an electric lift/transfer pump that transfers fuel fromt the tank to the VP44(IP) which then pressurzes(high) the fuel and sends it to the injectors---

the intank lift pump is an attempt by Dodge to deal with their stupid location of the lift pump---I suggest you never do this even if the dealer says it's a good thing to do--

12V....the 24V's do have fuel system issues that can be fixed if you dont mind spending the $$.

The most desirable 12v's are 96-98's with manual tranny. Its getting hard to find one that isnt abused and most are starting to get serious miles on them.
