VP-44 acquisition

Hello everyone! There is a fellow selling a brand new "still in the bag" remanufactured VP-44 online for $750 which will fit all diesels other than the 2003-2004. I'm wondering if it is something that should be "snatched up" just in case one is needed in the future? Being that they're $1250 from a dealer, it sounds like a good deal. After all, I am always hearing that these units are constantly going bad. Any input? Thanks .....Myles

Here's the information which was supplied. To your knowledge, will this work on a 2002 24 valve diesel 5.9 motor? Thank you....Myles

You will most likely want to make sure that the pump matches the engine (some people dont, but that is a different story).

Like Jerry asked: is the pump off of an ETC (standard output SO), or an ETH (high output HO)? Also, which one is the 2002 that you mention?

It is a great price if it is truely a "new" reman.

your engine has a CPL number on the same tag that your Serial number is on , it is a control part list number , if you give me your serial number I can look it up and tell you what your CPL is .

Well...I'd be a bit cautious. We do know that the VP-44 has "evolved". Bosch is finally somewhat comfortable that the latest editions are the best it will evolve to. If this is a recent rebuild, then it sounds like quite a good price. If it's an older rebuild, then all bets are off.

Does the P/N identify it' revision level?

I will check on this , there are a set of pump numbers that are usable for field fix and that is not one of them , gotta remember there are 21 different keys that can be used on the pump shafts for different timing and each key will also have a arrow on the key that can not be installed the opposite way it came . let me check on those numbers

Mr Piano

Thought you mentioned , on another thread, your truck/pumps were still under warranty? Why think about buying a spare?
2002 Fuel Pumps are not "constantly going bad". It's usually only when a lift pump fails and goes unnoticed, over stressing the FP.
I know you had that problem but it's Dodges problem...No?
