I know what your thinking, hey guys he's back whining and complaining again about his vp44, yes I am, anyhoo, I just thought of something I didn't bring up before. In an old post I read where someone mention the fact that the vp44 problem was isolated, I disagree, here's why: at the fire station where I work three of us have vp44's guess what 3rd guy is now having dead peddle issues, what are the odds? I'D SAY REAL GOOD, wouldn't you?

Me:2001
2nd guy: 2002 about 110,000 miles
3rd guy : 2002 about 80,000 miles ( dealer just replaced apps, still having dead peddle, he'll be going back to dealer.

Well, I guess they are just isolated to the State of Texas then!

Seriously though, they are a known, common failure. It's not if, but when with a VP44.

Heat kills. Does it get hot in Texas??????? Never let fuel level get below 1/2 tank helps, keep a keen eye on fuel pressure, and keep clean fuel filters helps, but is no guarentee.

Even that doesn't help.
I VERY rarely let the tank go more than 1/2 down before refueling. (maybe 5 times since new)
Full time fuel pressure gauge since 10,000 miles.
Fuel pressure never allowed to go below 7 psi @ WOT before changing lift pump. Idle never below 13 psi.
Diesel Fuel lubricity additve in almost every refueling.
Fuel Fiter changed every 15,000 - 18,000 miles. (never has any significant amount of trash in the filter bowl when changing)
And STILL lost a VP at 89,000 miles two days after Christmas last year.

Yes Tiny it gets very hot, however mine usually has problem in the morning about 0430 hrs, before my truck is even warm. Also of interest is that a full tank does seem to ward off problem does anyone know why? I read a post a while back that said they were doing electronic remans on vp44's for I think they said around $300, but if memory serves they didn't know where, I'll see if I can find that post.

Well my vp44 is at 120000 miles still going, have replaced 6 lift pumps. Even had one at 0psi (cross fingers) Moved first pump to frame rail next to tank. Last one went out yesterday, have to love warranty just under a year. But no more, going to install fass pump. Had to replace apps code 0222 kept on coming up just see how long pump lastXXXX?

Mostly likey it gets the hottest after the engine is shutdown and it gets heat soaked being so close to the block.

Same ritual here and mine started throwing the p0216 code the other day w/59k on it.
