Vacuum Pump Has Some Resistance After Seal Replacement

Need your experienced help and/or opinion

Is it normal for the V pump to turn freely for 180 deg and then give some resistance for the rest of a full revolution?

I'm asking because while doing the seal replacement I tried to tap the cap back onto the V pump, but quickly realized the shaft/gear end was supported by my bench. I then re-supported the pump by its body and tapped the cap on and torqued the bolts. I used a rubber mallet. Did tapping rather firmly on cap (PS pump end) with shaft/gear supported do any damage?

i'd just run it, new seals can be tight on the shaft.

I thought the same too. But what got me is that if it were the seals being tight shouldn't it be tight on the entire spin?
