Just putting this out there. Has anyone ever had their turbo rust out ? I have an 01 and started hearing an exhaust leak. Found out tonight that a hole rusted in the bottom side facing the inner fender of the turbo housing. My mechanics words were " just when you think you have seen it all". The joys of owning vehicles!

Metal rusts, but I have never heard of a turbo housing rusting through...til today!

No. Everything is bone stock. The turbo doesn't even look that bad, just rusty coloured but even the mechanic said it was clean.

Would love to see a picture where it's rusted out! Been working on turbo diesels since 1978 and have never seen one rust out!

I should have got a picture of it but it's at the garage now. The hole is just behind the exhaust turbine ( the drive ) on the inner fender side down at about 1/2 way between 90 and 180 degrees. My guy said he has never seen anything like it. The turbo is clean to a point. Surface rust but nothing like some pictures I see here on this site. Very disappointing for sure, one price we got was $1900 for the part. Living here in Canada parts seem to be harder to get and more costly. He looked at a site he uses for used and only seen a couple from one side of this country to the other and they didn't seem to be in that great shape. My truck only has 87,000 , miles on it so it's not like it has seen a million.
